The Cider Tonic story


See me, over there? Looking all radiant and rosy-cheeked? That’s my ‘after’ pic.

Five years ago, I was the overworked chef with the heavy heart and the bags under her eyes, eating rice bubbles over the sink at midnight. I’d worked so hard to get to where I was and had gone from running large kitchens, to working as a chef on oil rigs in the Bass Strait to being the proud owner of my very own café.

But as my 45th birthday crept closer, I knew that I wanted to give up cooking. I was exhausted from the long hours. I could barely remember what my friends and family looked like and I desperately wanted to feel purposeful and passionate again.

The day after I turned 45, I handed over my café to its new owners and then did what I think every woman should do at least once in her life: I went on a gap year.

“You’ve got twelve months,” I told myself. “365 days to heal, grow and bloom. Let’s see what the universe has in store for us.”

I quit smoking, gave up drinking and started eating healthier … but I still felt the same.

Then everything changed.


At the end of my gap year, my younger sister was diagnosed with stomach cancer and was given just two months to live.

Seven months later when we sadly lost her, my life – and health – finally crumbled. I was diagnosed with adrenal fatigue and my husband contracted glandular fever.

It was the toughest time of my life, both mentally and physically. But, like my beautiful sister, I was a fighter. And now I was a warrior on a mission.

How could someone so young have developed stomach cancer? This thought drove my research on gut health. And again and again I stumbled across articles proclaiming the health benefits of ACV (apple cider vinegar).

So I bought a bottle, uncapped the lid, took a swig and promptly retched.

What. The. Heck. Was. That!? (If you’ve tried ACV before, you’ve probably had a very similar thought!)

My inner chef was unleashed and I began experimenting with the exact anti-inflammatory ingredients and antioxidant-rich superfoods that would not only make ACV easier – and yummier – to digest, but would also complement and accentuate its health benefits.

In the two years since my husband and I have started taking Cider Tonic, not once have we had a cold or flu. Our immunity has thrived, our energy levels have flourished and our health has bloomed.

Originally, Cider Tonic was brewed in small batches just for us. But with more and more friends and family begging for their own bottles of wellness, the true Cider Tonic business was born.

Today, I’m proud to supply a delicious, everyday apple cider vinegar that delivers anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidant benefits with every sip.
