Whether you are new to Cider Tonic (and the benefits of apple cider vinegar), or you have been sipping Cider Tonic for some time, we will answer many of the questions you have about taking your daily shot of liquid gold.
Cider Tonic is a raw & orgsnic Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV) infused with 16 additional ingredients chosen for their beneficial health properties.
How is Cider Tonic made?
We start with organic apples that grow on a permaculture apple farm at Hazeldean in Victoria. These apples are allowed to ferment and turn into apple cider vinegar containing the Mother (more on this later!). We then go about steeping the following ingredients (organic where possible) in the ACV which makes our Original Cider Tonic: raw honey, ginger, lemon, turmeric, oregano, chili, parsley, garlic, onion, thyme, salt, pepper & bay leaves, apples, carrot & oranges. After the steeping process, the solid ingredients are filtered out to give us our wonderful Tonic.

How much do I take & when?
This depends on the reasons you are taking Cider Tonic.
For general wellbeing, including building your immunity and improving your gut health, we suggest a 10ml shot first thing in the morning. If you have never had ACV before, then 5ml is a good place to start for the first week before building up to the full 10ml dose.
For digestive issues, such as bloating or indigestion, then 10ml before each meal will help to relieve your symptoms.
For helping to ward off the common cold, we that find increasing your dosage of 10ml from once a day to three times a day will reduce the duration and severity of the cold. The best time to start increasing the dosage is when you first feel the telltale signs of the cold coming on, and continue until your symptoms have passed.
I could just take apple cider vinegar (ACV), so why Cider Tonic?
The main reason customers chose Cider Tonic over a store bought ACV is the taste. Cider Tonic’s 16 additional ingredients help to balance out the flavour of the ACV, giving it a much more palatable and well-rounded flavour than regular store bought ACV (For those that haven’t tried straight apple cider vinegar, let me tell you it is quite an acquired taste!).
Cider Tonic’s additional ingredients have their own health properties which other ACV’s miss out on, meaning you also get more bang for your buck with Cider Tonic.
Our apple cider vinegar is raw and organic meaning your bottle of ACV will always have the mother in it (the most important ingredient). Inferior apple cider vinegars don’t have this – meaning you’re just drinking a really sour vinegar without any of the benefits!
How do I take Apple Cider Vinegar?
The best way to take apple cider vinegar is by having it everyday, however we understand this is challenging for some people, but is necessary to get the best results (apple cider vinegar’s benefits work by building up your immunity, and this takes time). The following list is by no means definitive, but it will give you some ideas. I personally prefer to take a shot and chase it down with a glass of water, however you may have other ideas than what we have here and we would love for you to share them with us.
- neat with a water chaser;
- added to a glass of still or sparkling water;
- added to a glass of mineral water;
- add to your juice or smoothie;
- as a salad dressing;
- add a splash to soups & stew
What are the benefits of taking ACV (apple cider vinegar)?

Note: the benefits of apple cider vinegar can vary from person to person, so you may not experience all of these benefits.
What are the floatie bits I can see in the bottle?
The majority of the sediment and floaties in your tonic are made up of the ‘Mother’. The Mother is something unique to Apple Cider Vinegar and contains all of the gut-friendly bacteria, digestive enzymes and proteins needed to protect and maintain your gut health (kind of like nature’s superhero!). The sediment also contains some of the additional ingredients left over from the filtering process and are also beneficial to your gut health.
Before taking your daily dose of be sure to give your bottle of Cider Tonic a good shake before taking a shot to help distribute all that goodness!
How do I store my bottle of Cider Tonic?
Cider Tonic is a very stable product and does not need to be refrigerated, even after opening. The ideal place to store it is on your kitchen bench in plain sight so that you can’t forget to take it each day (something that can happen very easily if it is placed in a cupboard). We do recommend keeping it away from direct sunlight (such as the window sill) or hot objects (like your stovetop), as excessive heat may kill off the Mother.
Fun fact: If you are finding it hard to replace the lid on your Cider Tonic bottle, you can cut off the wax seal on the bottle to reveal a screw top lid!
I have an intolerance to onion & garlic, what can I do?
We have thought of you too. Check out our Allium Free range of Cider Tonic, which has all of our ingredients but without the onion & garlic.
Where do you get your ingredients?
The quality of our ingredients is incredibly important to us. We are developing a food forest using organic permaculture principles at Cider Tonic HQ to grow our ingredients. What we aren’t able to currently supply ourselves or need a top up of, we source from local organic producers who have the same principles as us. You can read more about our journey to growing our ingredients in our blogs.
Woohoo! I am pregnant, but does that mean I can take Cider Tonic?
Cider Tonic is a raw and unpasturised product (this is best practice for preserving the good bacteria and digestive enzymes) and hence may not be suitable for pregnant or breastfeeding mothers. We highly recommend that you consult your doctor before consuming or continuing to use Cider Tonic.
