Read on to find out how to prevent Acid Reflux and how the use of Apple Cider Vinegar can help to relieve this uncomfortable ailment.
You can use apple cider vinegar to prevent and relieve reflux. Acid Reflux and GERD can be painful and uncomfortable for many as well as sometimes leading to more serious ailments throughout the body. An activated apple cider vinegar (ACV with the mother) like my home grown Cider Tonic can be used to prevent Acid Reflux occurring in the first place. It can also be used to treat the symptoms reflux when it hits.
I’ve taken the time to put together some information about Acid Reflux and provide helpful solutions, read on to find out:
What is acid reflux?
Well when your lower oesophagus becomes weak or relaxes when it’s not supposed to, it causes your stomach (hydrochloric) acids and contents to rise back up into the oesophagus. This causes that nasty chest pain, heartburn, regurgitation and makes it just plain difficult to swallow.
If you suffer from severe Acid Reflux more than twice a week then it may be referred to as GERD or “Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease”. Symptoms are more severe with specific ailments including bad breath, tooth decay, gingivitis, chronic cough, worsening asthma, abdomen bloating and belching, hiccups, earaches, chronic sore throats and post nasal drip.
Acid Reflux is caused by many things such as:
- Increased pressure on the abdomen from being overweight or pregnant
- Ingesting a very heavy or large meal (then lying down)
- Eating or snacking right before bedtime
- Eating certain food such as citrus, tomato, chocolate, mint, garlic, other spices, onion, or fatty foods
- Drinking certain beverages such as alcohol, soft drinks, excess coffee or tea
- Taking medication such as aspirin, ibuprofen, muscle relaxers and some blood pressure medication
Reflux pain is no joke.

Prevent Acid Reflux with daily Cider Tonic.
Taking activated apple cider vinegar like Cider Tonic daily can prevent flare ups of reflux. Many of my customers tell me that they use Cider Tonic as a preventative measure and have noticed a big difference, which I am delighted to hear as I am so glad my specially crafted ACV tonic can help.
Beating an acid with an acid be like… crazy?
Isn’t ACV acidic?
Yep, I’m hearing you, but contrary to belief apple cider vinegar can actually help to relieve symptoms of reflux and heartburn. It’s hard to fathom that an acidic food can actually be beneficial, especially when many people are told to stay away from acidic foods. You see, ACV contains a very different type of acid to what’s made in your stomach.
This special acetic acid is present in an activated apple cider tonic like ours. Acetic Acid is the ingredient that gives vinegar its unique taste and is the most important active ingredient in my Cider Tonic.
Acetic acid has an alkaline effect, it reduces inflammation and lowers blood pressure. It keeps blood sugar levels on an even keel. Acetic Acid helps all the systems in your body run smoothly by regulating PH levels.
The pain associated with reflux comes from stomach (hydrochloric) acid, and the active acetic acid found in Cider Tonic can help to settle the acids in the stomach. It quickly quashes the stomach acids back down the oesophagus into the stomach when a flare up begins.
Because of the presence of Acetic Acid in ACV, the tonic retains more of the naturally occurring enzymes, proteins and bacteria, so it basically works as a natural remedy antacid to provide relief.
Drink ACV before each meal to prevent Acid Reflux.
I would advise you to take CiderTonic or ACV before every meal as a preventative measure, especially if you know you will be eating a big meal. You can also take it when an attack occurs.
We all know that drinking ACV can initially feel acidic when going down, and this is not comfortable when reflux is flaring. Trust me that within a few minutes reflux will settle quickly and the symptoms will ease.
Helpful tips to prevent Acid Reflux include:
- Eat smaller meals
- Wear loose clothing, avoid tight belts and clothing that restrict comfortable digestion
- Do not lay down flat after heavy meals, instead prop up your top half when you are in bed
- Drink ACV before each meal
- Eat meals slowly and mindfully
- Try a Gluten Free Diet
Prop up yourself when resting after a meal.
